On Thursday (October 20), Green Day announced a 2024 North American Stadium tour with the Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and the Linda Lindas at a covert performance at the Fremont Country Club in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dates for the official tour have not yet been made public. Along with the tour information, Green Day also unveiled their brand-new song, “The American Dream Is Killing Me,” which will be released on October 29. The song may be related to Green Day’s as-yet-untitled 2020 follow-up to their 13th album, Father of All Motherfuckers.
Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day told the audience, “I have a big announcement,” before announcing the tour with The Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and Linda Lindas. It’s very large. Prepare your cameras. As an homage to the group’s 2005 smash “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” the band first began teasering the release of the new song on social media in a video showing Armstrong waking up after a protracted nap.
In the beginning of the video, the date of October 24 was circled in red ink. The American Dream Is Killing Me website also encourages users to sign up for email alerts whenever a new song or album is released. Green Day also previewed their song “1981” in July at a concert in Quebec City, Canada, but they haven’t provided any other information on a potential 14th album.
