Kurt Cobain of Nirvana was not afraid to express his views, even if they were considered controversial by some. This was true of Cobain’s opinions on various performers in the industry. In a 1992 interview with Melody Maker, for example, the frontman expressed his distaste for Genesis’ Phil Collins. Kurt said that, while he supported many aspects of rock music, there were a few things he would prefer do without, one of which was Genesis leader Phil Collins. Cobain had this to say about Phil Collins: “Do you know what I despise about rock? Horns and cartoons. I despise Phil Collins, all of his macho soul.” The Nirvana leader reportedly developed a great hatred for Collins, as evidenced by his next statements, which read: “I, too, despise tie-dyed tee shirts. You know there are bootleg Nirvana tie-dyed tee-shirts? That irritates me. I wouldn’t wear a tie-dyed tee shirt unless it was dyed with Phil Collins’ urine and Jerry Garcia’s blood.
” Kurt has strong feelings for several musicians, including Phil Collins, who was notorious for his fight with Axl Rose of Guns N’ Roses. In previous interviews, the two artists expressed their hate for one another and their bands. When Rose made comments to Cobain’s wife, Courtney Love, and their child backstage at the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards, everything between the rockers erupted. The following is how Kurt remembered the incident: “You know, my wife and I were sitting in a tent at the MTV Music Awards yesterday.” We yelled at Axl Rose as he passed by, ‘Axl, will you be the godfather of our child?’ And he came to a halt, turned around, and pointed his finger at me, with 20 bodyguards surrounding him, and I had a helpless child in my arms.” Kurt continued to give the rest of the narrative of what transpired backstage, adding: “He told my wife, ‘You better shut up, bitch.'” ‘Please don’t pinch me to shit tonight.’… ‘You better keep your wife shut or I’m going to take you to the pavement,’ he warned. I was shaking and asked, ‘What? What plan do you have? ‘Did you beat me up?’ ‘You better keep your wife’s mouth quiet,’ he advised. You disgrace everyone, including your wife.’ ‘Shut up bitch!’ I scolded my wife.[laughs]”
