After several years, Fogerty was able to reclaim his publishing rights.

After decades of battle, John Fogerty, the iconic Creedence Clearwater Revival vocalist and guitarist, has finally regained his publication rights. The conflict began more than 50 years ago, when the band signed with Saul Zaentz’s Fantasy Records. He sought for years to get out of the contract after realizing the terms were unjust. He surrendered his royalties to the record executive in 1980 and has not received payment for the use of his music for decades. In 1985, he was sued for “self-plagiarism” by Zaentz, since his solo song “The Old Man Down The Road” sounded similar to CCR’s popular “Run Through The Jungle.” In court, Fogerty prevailed. In 2023, the musician stated that he had purchased the rights to his own tunes.
