“I’m not sure if this is our last chance to see Wolverine on screen”: The director of Deadpool 3 took extra precautions with one aspect of Hugh Jackman’s MCU debut that many fans disliked

With the massive success of previous films, Marvel is preparing for Deadpool 3, a highly anticipated project that will see Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine return. Fans have been ecstatic since his presence in the production was disclosed, as he will once again share the big screen with Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth. Given that his comeback is such a big deal for MCU comic book character fans, the film director has taken special care with his suit, which many fans disliked. The Director of Deadpool 3 Discussed Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine Suit. Shawn Levy, director of Deadpool 3, spoke with EW at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival about his upcoming Netflix series based on the novel All the Light We Cannot See. During the discussion, he also discussed Hugh Jackman’s MCU debut, shedding information on how his character, Wolverine’s costume, was created. He, like everyone else, had been anticipating the return of the X-Men character with the mercenary. It was for this reason that he took extra care of his character’s distinctive yellow outfit, which is extremely comparable to what the character wears in comics and the X-Men animated series from the 1990s.

He revealed to EW, “Like the rest of the world, I’ve waited two decades to see Wolverine in a whole movie with Deadpool, and I don’t know if this is our last shot at Wolverine on screen, so I was going to make goddamned sure we get the old yellow and blue just once, and that we get it right.” He explained that his team had “multiple, multiple, multiple iterations and fittings” to guarantee that the yellow-blue costume was depicted correctly. He also addressed the reaction of fans when Jackman’s images were posted online, revealing the first look of his legendary suit. Many fans were unimpressed with Wolverine’s Deadpool 3 costume. In terms of how this massive project was built, Levy stated that he didn’t have to worry because the studio had ‘an army’ working on it. He went on to tell EW, “It also helps that I’m making this movie within the MCU, so I have access to an army of the nerdiest nerds available to a Marvel project.”

He also revealed that the title character agreed to make the film “grounded and not feel like a bunch of physical environments filmed on a soundstage.” It was the precise reason that led to big portions of the picture being shot on location that contributed to Jackman’s character leaking. However, not everyone was pleased with Wolverine’s new look. Many people were concerned about Jackman’s long sleeves, which greatly diminished his personality. Even his shoulder pads contributed to the costume’s shortcomings, with some calling the overall appearance “too cartoony.” However, it received a positive response, which the director addressed. During the same interview, he stated, “Fortunately,” he added, “it seems global reaction to those costumes has been overwhelmingly positive, so all’s well that ends well.” To summarize, the much anticipated film is generating headlines for minor reasons, and why not? It will resurrect the crazy chemistry that audiences witnessed years ago.
