Ozzy Osbourne recently stated in an interview with Rolling Stone UK that he was angry at Geezer Butler for failing to reach out to him or offer assistance at this time of health issues. He also acknowledged that their friendship broke out as a result of an argument between Geezer Butler’s wife Gloria and his manager/wife, Sharon. He declared: Tony Iommi has been my biggest supporter ever since I became ill. I have not had a one fucking call from Geezer Butler. Not even one phone call. I called him every fucking night after his son was born, even though Black Sabbath and I were at war (after his sacking). “Fuck it, he’s my mate, I’m going to call him,” was my thought. But not a single fucking call from him. Man, it’s depressing. He can’t pick up the phone like a guy and check on me when we all grew up together. Bill Ward has even communicated with me.
Ozzy continued, recognizing the impact Geezer Butler’s wife had on him: Because of that, are you really going to hide under your wife’s skirt? Butler wrote about his relationship with Ozzy in his memoirs “Into the Void,” which was released this year. He said: “Ozzy and I are doing great; we’re just subject to our wives’ authority.” He was always there for me and has a great heart. Following the release of his book, Butler reiterated his earlier assertion that Ozzy and his wife were to blame for their misunderstandings. He also expressed skepticism about their ability to communicate with one another in the future. He stated the following in a June interview with Ultimate Classic Rock: “The wives caused the argument; we didn’t.” It’s unlikely that Ozzy and Butler will communicate properly again, at least not anytime soon.
