Chris Slade Reacts to AC/DC Choosing Matt Laug to Replace Him

Former AC/DC drummer Chris Slade posted to his band’s Facebook page, The Chris Slade Timeline, to congratulate Matt Laug on his new gig. The drummer penned: “I remember Matt [Laug] as a very nice guy from my days in California.” He is a very talented, teetotal drummer who will place the drums exactly where Angus [Young] wants them…… At the back of the stage. I wish him the best of luck!” Slade congratulated Laug on the news, but several fans were offended by his sentiments. The drummer cleared the air once more by publishing an explanation on Facebook. He stated: “An update to my previous post, and in response to some people who appear to have misunderstood and made comments implying otherwise.” I’m not bitter or “whining,” and I certainly didn’t expect a call from AC/DC.

I just wanted to say that I know Matt well and that he will do an excellent job, because I knew many of you would ask me!!” He also apologized for the prank, saying: “I apologize for my poor sense of humour, which some of you missed….. In the 60 years I’ve been in bands, I’ve always sat near the back of the stage…… CHEERS!” Matt will play with AC/DC at the Power Trip festival in California next month in his new capacity. This will be the band’s first performance since their 2016 appearance at the Wells Fargo Center. This will also be their reunion with Brian Johnson, who was advised by physicians to take a break in order to avoid losing his hearing.
