According to Sammy Hagar, Eddie Van Halen and He Should Have Been in Prison

In a recent story that he posted on his official YouTube account, Sammy Hagar discussed an illicit activity that he and Eddie Van Halen engaged in while living next door in Malibu. Aside from the first time you had sex in a car—that’s a whole different story—one of my favorite recollections of everything that occurs in a car is this. However, on 5150, Eddie Van Halen owned a Lamborghini Countach, I own a 512 Ferrari Boxer, and our Foreigner producer, Mick Jones, rented a Corvette.

Sammy continued, recalling that it occurred around “Best of Both Worlds” (2004): “After we wrapped up filming, at around two in the morning, we were all staying in Malibu, and to be honest, I think it was ‘Best of Both Worlds.'” Mick Jones had rented a property nearby, and Eddie and I shared a neighboring residence. With no traffic, the three of us took a trip up Mulholland Drive, winding through the back roads of Highway 1, racing three automobiles on the way back. Yes, we ought to have been incarcerated. But we were shattered; it seemed unreal. We simply raced the entire way, like you would on a two-lane road when someone is traveling three abreast. Extremely risky, but we made it through and made it out alive. It’s not something I would recommend doing again.

Hagar Glad They Could Talk Before Eddie Van Halen’s Death
Sammy Hagar discussed his text discussions with Eddie in an interview with Fox News earlier this year. Eddie passed away in October 2020 at the age of 65 following years of cancer treatment. “Well, it means a lot to me to have been able to text Eddie and have a great conversation with him. I would have felt terrible if he had passed away and we had never exchanged a “I love you” statement. I doubt I could have spoken at all. I couldn’t discuss it with you in that way. Creative differences caused a fallout, and in 1996 Van Halen fired Hagar from the band. Creative differences caused a fallout, and in 1996 Van Halen fired Hagar from the band. From 2003 to 2005, Hagar was back with the band, but even when they were on tour together, their public arguments persisted.
